This lessons enables students to categorise the vast majority of the worlds suffering into either natural or moral evil. They will then think about three main religious arguments about why God allows evil and suffering in the world. The lesson is a good follow on from the lesson titled “Philosophies of suffering”

Students take a look at Platos cave and consider what this can teach a modern audience about our existence. This ties in very nicely with simulation theory which was made popular by the Matrix.

This lesson seeks to address the questions of “What is suffering?” and “Why do we suffer?”. Students will consider different types of suffering that are encountered in life and begin to understand a variety of explanations as to why suffering takes place.
